Bus commuters get respite
Chennai: Residents of Puzhithivakkam had a difficult time reaching the bus stand for the last two months, but after a report was published in Deccan Chronicle, some respite has come their way.
Debris and other construction material were dumped on the Puzhithivakkam bus terminus leaving no driving space. Commuters had to take a 1-km circuitous route to reach the buses, which were halted near the proposed Puzhithivakkam Metro rail.
“The dumped construction material is part of the ongoing construction of government schemes like Amma medical shop and a ration shop,” said a corporation official.
After the coverage in DC, the material was partly cleared, facilitating space for bus entry. The terminus connects the locality with arterial areas of the city like Guindy and Broadway.
“Walking till the terminus in the scorching Sun was a difficult task. We are extremely happy that the buses are now functioning at the terminus,” said B. Raksha, an MSC student.
However, things are not completely rosy at the terminus as the debris is placed at a corner of the bus terminus. An MTC bus driver told Deccan Chronicle that they have to drive with great caution amid the construction material. “It would take more than two months to complete the project. We have to put up with it,” added the driver.
