Hyderabad: 3 new reservoirs to open in IT corridor
Hyderabad: The coming into operation of the new reservoirs in IT corridor will provide 40,000 new tap connections and officials will provide connections in a phased-manner.
As many as 13 new water reservoirs including large overhead tanks are being constructed, of which three will be launched by the end of this month. The projects wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has laid down the required pipelines from the reservoirs and overhead tanks to colonies. The capacities of these reservoirs are in between 20 lakh and 80 lakh litres.
There are at present 43,000 water connections in the IT corridor and its neighbouring areas. Miyapur, Chandanagar, Madhapur, Gachibowli, RC Puram and Patancheru sections have water connections.
General Manager of water works P. Venkateswar Rao said that the three reservoirs at Nallagandla (30 lakh litres), Gopanpally (25 lakh litres) and Miyapur (60 lakh litres) would be commissioned by the end of April. “We are waiting for an appointment with minister K.T. Rama Rao for the inauguration of the reservoirs. The pending works will be finished in three days. Water Works’ MD Mr. Dana Kishore visited these reservoirs,” he said. He said that the three new reservoirs would provide 5,000 more connections and another two new reservoirs at Kondapur (60 lakh litres) and Ayyappa Society (40 lakh litres) would provide more than 15,000 new connections. “The reservoirs will be ready by next month. Work on others is being geared up,” he said.
Another official said that the three reservoirs which will be commissioned by the end of this month have a capacity of 10,000 new connections and officials will provide 5,000 connections in phase-I followed by phase-II after monitoring the gap between supply and demand. “The Kondapur and Ayyappa Society reservoirs will supply to TNGOs colony, Masidbanda, JVG Hills, Sriramnagar, Madhapur and Ayyappa Society localities. All the 13 new reservoirs will provide at least 40,000 new connections,” the official said.
