PCC chief Bhupesh Baghel justifies meet with accused
Bhopal: Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhupesh Baghel’s recent meeting with an under-trial, facing charges of aiding Naxals, in Ambikapur Central Jail in Chhattisgarh has sparked controversy with BJP demanding a high level probe into it.
Mr Baghel who met the under-trial Abhay Singh on April 15, however, on Monday alleged that the latter was sent to jail on “trampled up” charges to prevent him from bringing to light the alleged nexus between the Naxals and the Chhattisgarh government.
“Abhay Singh had filed public interest litigation in Chhattisgarh high court demanding a high level probe into the 2013 Jiram Ghati Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district in which 32 people including 27 Congress leaders were massacred.
He was a police informer since 2002. But, he was slapped with “trampled up” charges of aiding Naxals and sent to jail to keep the alleged nexus between Chhattisgarh government and Naxals under, wrap,” he alleged.
He also demanded a CBI probe into the charges made by Abhay.
