Elections 2019: Stage set for polling in delta districts
THANJAVUR: The stage is set for polling to Thanjavur Lok sabha and Thanjavur Assembly by-elections to be held on Thursday in Thanjavur district.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Control units and VVPATs were sent to respective booths with police security from Revenue Divisional office and taluk offices on Wednesday. The Ink for making a mark and other necessary articles were also sent to the booths.
In Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency comprising of Thanjavur, Orathanadu, Pattukottai, Peravurani and Thiruvaiyaru assembly constituencies in Thanjavur district and Mannargudi Assembly constituency in Tiruvarur district, 14,43,378 are expected to exercise their franchise on Thursday. Three assembly constituencies i.e., Kumbakonam, Papanasam and Thiruvidaimaruthur which fall under Mayiladuthurai Lok sabhaconstituency are in Thanjavur district.
For the whole district 5,772 EVMs will be used with 3,622 control units and 4,005 VVPATs. A total of 11,662 teachers and government staff will be on poll duty in the district. Including para-military, police and home guards a total of 2,000 personnel will be on security duty in the district.
A total of 103 polling booths have been identified as vulnerable in the district and three tier security will be provided to them with para military, police and home guards.
A total of 11,995 voters are differently-abled and facilities like ramp, wheel chairs have been arranged for them at the polling booths.
Officials will reach booths by 6 am and will conduct a mock poll before actual polling starts at 7 am, said officials.
