Graveyard watchman contracts virus from free rations distributor in Hubballi

Hubballi: A 63-year old graveyard watchman tested positive for Coronavirus in Karnataka’s Hubballi on Saturday. He reportedly got infected from another Corona positive youth, a resident of Mulla Oni area, while the latter was distributing free foodgrains to the watchman and several other people last month.

The 27-year-old youth from Mulla Oni was tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection on April 9. He has been shifted to an isolation ward at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

The initial report based on the patient's travel history suggests that he had visited Delhi a few days ago. Around 3km area surrounding Mulla Oni has been announced as containment area and all the procedures have been initiated.

Earlier, deputy commissioner Deepa Cholan had issued a statement urging those who have received foodgrains, to voluntarily undergo throat swab test.

Many relatives and friends had accompanied the youth while distributing foodgrains to the poor.

The health officials have kept the watchman under isolation along with other two persons at KIMS as they had come into contact with him.

Though 12 Corona cases are reported in Karnataka on Saturday as against 80 cases during last two days, most of the fresh cases are found due to the secondary contact which has become a matter of concern for the officials.

Therefore, they fear that such developments signal the spread of the virus to the community.

In all, 6 positive cases are reported due to secondary contact on Saturday.
