Purchase of chillis resumes in Guntur
GUNTUR: Chilli purchase resumed to help the chilli growers to sell their produce at the Chilli Yard at Guntur on Wednesday. The day and night temperatures largely increased this summer season and 46/47 degree Celsius day temperatures were recorded at Guntur, Rentachintala and other areas of Guntur district for the past few days. The red chillis should be preserved in the cold storage to keep its colour and quality unchanged but the chilli growers are unable to bear the extra cost and trying to sell out the produce.
The high temperature would change the red colour of dry chillis to black which would degrade the quality of the chillis and further would decrease the price. The chilli growers are planning to sell their produce at any cost to avoid damage of the quality. In all, 578 shops in the Chilli Yard were opened on Wednesday but only a sizeable chilli growers came to the yard to sell the produce due the absence of campaign about restarting the chilli purchases. Half of the commission agents and workers also did not join the trading and they are expected to resume work on Thursday.
