First evening clinic launched at Guntur hospital

Vijayawada: A first-of-its kind Evening Clinic introduced by the AP government has started functioning in the state at Government General Hospital (GGH) at Guntur on Thursday. GGH superintendent Dr. N Prabhavathi started the Evening Clinic was started to provide better medical services to the patients in the Guntur Government Hospital and appealed to the people to avail themselves of the services of at the new medical facility.

Dr Prabhavati said that outpatient (OP) services were launched at the hospital on the directives of the director of medical education (DME). She said that earlier the OP services were available in the morning from 9 am to 1 pm and that the services will now be available in the evening from 3 pm to 4 pm.

She suggested that the results of the diagnostic test suggested by doctors in the OP should be shown to the doctors in the same OP as this will help the patients to get emergency services. She suggested that people should take advantage of the Evening Clinic service.

Hailing the Evening Clinics service, zonal in-charge of YSR Congress medical department NTR, Krishna, Guntur districts, Dr. Mehboob Sheikh said that it is commendable to provide OP services even in the evening in government teaching hospitals. He stated that the evening clinic concept is a proof of the great determination of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to make better specialty medical services more accessible to the poor and middle class people.

He further stated that after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy became the Chief Minister, he brought radical changes in the fields of medicine and medical education in the state.

Dr Mehboob Sheik stated that through Aarogyasri, in addition to providing free treatment to the poor in leading hospitals in AP and neighboring states, Evening Clinics have been initiated to make the services of teaching hospitals in our state more useful to the poor. The new facility will help thousands of poor in availing better medical care.
