Kadirenahalli Cross: Amid potholes, a road exists!

This stretch is also prone to illegal garbage dumping, posing a health hazard to local residents.

Bengaluru: The entire stretch of road in Subash Chandra Bose Nagar near Kadirenahalli Cross has been in a pathetic state for the last few years. Though BBMP had tried to repair the roads in the past, the materials used were of poor quality, and hence they didn’t even survive the early showers of monsoon. This stretch is also prone to illegal garbage dumping, posing a health hazard to local residents

The promises by the Palike to repair the roads before every monsoon remain just that. The hurriedly laid asphalt, using materials of poor quality, don’t survive beyond early showers.

At Subash Chandra Bose Nagar near Kadiranahalli Cross, local residents claim the entire stretch of road has been in a pathetic state for the last few years.
“God knows when the road will be repaired. Now monsoon is here and in 10 minutes of rain, the entire stretch becomes a cesspool. I am seeing this stretch of road with craters and potholes for the past few years,” said Vivek Gupta, a local resident.

He further added that the road is a nightmare for motorists as it is prone to frequent accidents. The poor quality of road ensures that if slippery even on normal days.

“There have been accidents on this road before. The road is important given its connectivity to Kengeri. Though promises were made to repair the road before elections, hardly anything has been done,” he added.

This stretch of the road also faces the problem of garbage dumping. There is a dump right before the Eidgah Masjid and though the BBMP trucks lift the garbage every day, but within hours there is a pile up.

“We see people throwing garbage and most of them come from the nearby banquet hall. When the residents know who the major culprit is, what is stopping the Palike to fine the violators? This is a serious offence,” said Gaurav Kashyap, a local resident.

Asserting his fundamental right to stay in a clean environment, Kashyap said, “Many do not want to complain openly about the garbage menace for the fear of crossing the path with violators, but the civic agency can clearly see that the roads are not good and the garbage has become a health hazard.”

Last year the government promised to install cameras to control crime and as well as to catch those illegally dumping garbage, but no action has been taken against violators till now.

Sadiq, a photographer by profession and a nearby resident, commented, “More than the installation of cameras, we need a commitment of proper monitoring. The manpower should be adequate to monitor. Hope this year, the city achieves 75% segregation rate.”
