OU convocation after 6 years

Around 800 scholars out of the 2,896 scholars who had finished their PhD were awarded their degrees.

Hyderabad: Set a goal and work to achieve it, do what you like the most and be what you want to be, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan told students at the 80th convocation of Osmania University on Monday. This was the first convocation being held at the university after six years. Around 200 students were given gold medals for their performance in academics starting from 2014.

The Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the varsity, said the universities should engage in corporate social responsibility activities like the corporate sector during the vacations. He wanted that the convocation date be fixed on the academic calendar.

Dr S. Chandrasekhar, Director, CSIR Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, the chief guest, asked students to become job-givers rather than job-seekers. He recalled the days when “finding a decently-paid job” was the main objective of education, and contrasted the emphasis today on promotion of start-ups by young graduates.

Around 800 scholars out of the 2,896 scholars who had finished their PhD were awarded their degrees. Around 1,100 students were present at the convocation and accepted their degrees directly. Degrees and gold medals were presented to students who completed their course from July 2012 to June 2018.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Ramachandram presented a report on the University’s achievements and highlighted Osmania University’s 26th rank in the recent list put out under the National Institutional Ranking Framework and the A+ grade given by the NAAC.

He outlined recent initiatives including online evaluation of answer scripts, biometric attendance system, the ongoing e-Office file handling system, and the infrastructural boost under RUSA 2.0.
