WARANGAL: Facing an uproar from various people’s organisations, opposition parties and intellectuals and fearing electoral reverses in the upcoming Assembly polls, the BRS government has decided to withdraw the UAPA case against Prof. Haragopal, said Telangana Udyama Karula Vedika (TUKV) chairman Prof. K. Venkatanarayana in a statement in Hanamkonda on Saturday.
He said that the ruling BRS leaders were acting as a law unto themselves like Nizam rulers in the state. The people of Telangana would not accept the state government trying to muzzle the voices of intellectuals by foisting false cases against them, who were trying to bring various public issues to light, he said.
Slapping a case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on Prof. Haragopal is an attempt to stifle his voice for questioning the Telangana government about the corruption in the name of schemes, scams, various kinds of mafias rampant in the state, he alleged.
Venkatanarayana said that the Telangana activists and intellectuals have been creating awareness among the people for the past two years by conducting various programmes and meetings about the corruption by the BRS government and its attempts to weaken the education and health sectors, suicides by farmers induced by the government policies being implemented for the past nine years in the state.
Stating that no government was permanent, the TUKV chief said the IAS and IPS officials were meant to protect the rights of the people as per the Constitution but not for implementing the anti-democratic orders by the governments.
