Dad had cordial ties with all, says Karnataka DySP son

The state government has formed a judicial commission headed by retired High Court judge Keshav Narayanan to probe suicide of Ganapati.

Mysuru: The grief stricken family of former DySP Madapanda Kushalappa Ganapati performed the 11th day ceremony as per Kodava customs on Sunday and made it evident that they are not happy with any investigation ordered by the Government of Karnataka into his death.

The state government has formed a judicial commission headed by retired High Court judge Mr Keshav Narayanan to probe the suicide of Ganapati who was found hanging in a lodge in Madikeri a week ago. He had blamed several top guns including Bengaluru development minister K.J. George and some senior police officers for harassing him.

A political storm has broken out following the suicide with the opposition parties gunning for Mr George demanding his resignation for targeting honest bureaucrats.

Amrit Somaiah counsel of the family of Ganapati, while speaking to Deccan Chronicle, said that the private case registered at the Principal Magistrate Court in Madikeri will come up for hearing on Monday.

The private case has been lodged appealing to the Court to direct the police to register a FIR against Minister K J George, police officers Mr Pramod Mohanty and Mr A.M. Prasad, whose names Mr Ganapati has mentioned in his interview to local the electronic media before his death. The family will take further steps based on the court order, he said.

After BJP leaders met her, Ganapati’s wife has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Amrit Somaiah said. Meanwhile Nehal elder son of M.K. Ganapati said, “It was inevitable to lodge a private case in the Court insisting on an impartial inquiry, as all three accused are influential personalities,” he said. “Our father was very cordial with everyone,” he said in an emotion-ridden voice during the traditional rites.
