Governor visits flood-hit areas, promises to highlight victims’ issues
Bhadradri: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday visited flood-hit areas of Aswapuram mandal in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district and interacted with victims to take stock of the situation. She visited flood-hit residences, distributed sanitation kits, blankets and medicines, and also reviewed arrangements made at relief centres.
“(In) some areas people are little agitated because they wanted double-bedroom houses... and expressed their feelings,” the Governor told reporters.
Braving the intermittent rains, slush and inundation conditions, Soundararajan visited the damaged houses and inundated paddy fields. Soundararajan navigated the muddy roads of Chintiryala village to call upon the flood victims, and also visited Pamulapalli, located in Aswapuram mandal.
The Governor assured of bringing their grievances to the notice of the authorities concerned.
She said, “As a Governor, I cannot extend the assistance that you asked. But, I can take your problem to the notice of the state government. I will write to the government about your problems of you.”
The Governor’s visit drew considerable attention as it ran parallel to the scheduled tour of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to Bhadrachalam, located in the same district, on Sunday.
Officials from police and revenue departments deputed to accompany her tried to hasten up her tour in view of the CM’s scheduled visit.
Soon after Tamilisai left, police closed the gates of SKT Kalyana Mandapam, where the Governor addressed the flood victims, as the Chief Minister’s convoy was approaching Bhadrachalam from Eturunagaram.
Flood victims demanded that the gates be opened so that they could meet the CM, but the Chief Minister’s convoy had already left. Following this, the victims staged a dharna on the road demanding houses from the state government.
BJP Bhadradri district president K. Satyanarayana accused the district administration of deputing officials for the Governor’s tour only for namesake. He said a delegation of BJP leaders requested her to take initiative in getting two-bedroom houses for flood-affected families in addition to ex gratia of ₹25,000.
