Woman tonsured in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Barely a kilometer away from where Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje unfurled national flag on the 70th Independence day in Ajmer, a woman was dragged out of her home and her head was tonsured while she was tied up with a tree for couple of hours.
Having been deserted by her husband, the victim lives in Kotra Pasand Nagar slum. On Monday, a group of her neighbours — all women — barged into her house. They dragged her to the middle of the basti and severely beat her up then tied her to a tree and tonsured her head.
Ironically, the woman was punished for something she had no role to play in. She was subject to torture for her husband’s crime. Her husband Bunty eloped with daughter of a neighbor three months ago. The girl was recovered from Jaipur but Bunty managed to escape from Thanagaji in Alwar district.
The woman was herself a victim as her husband deserted her for another girl but the women of the girl’s family vent their ire on his wife. The victim has named five women Bhuri, her three daughters Reshma, Farida and Shehnaz and another woman from the neighbor Jamuna in the FIR; accusing them of barging in her house on Monday morning, thrashing her, tying up to a tree and tonsuring her head.
