Srisailam dam gates to open if level touches 880 feet

KURNOOL: Inflows to Srisailam reservoir at the Lower Krishna Division (LKD) continued, raising the water level to 878 ft, just 8 ft short of full reservoir level. If the reservoir level reaches 880 feet, the crest gates will be opened, said chief engineer Narayana Reddy. Inflows at dam site stood at 3,23,538 cusecs and outflow to Nagarjunasagar dam was 97,000 cusecs, he said. The flood levels are rising, said Srisailam superintendent engineer Veer Raju with offset deflection of plus or minus 1 ft.

Sunkesula barrage at LKD at Kurnool was at 289.10 meters and spillway discharge was 1,84,712 cusecs while inflow from Tungabhadra was 1,87,066 cusecs. About 2,354 cusecs of water was discharged to Kadapa Kurnool canal, the official said.

Kurnool collector S. Satyanarayana, who has been monitoring the flood situation along the banks of Tungabhadra, said that there was no flood threat to the district. All the habitats along the river banks have been alerted. and village revenue officers and irrigation engineers were monitoring the situation round the clock. A control room was also set up, he said.
