Streamline queue at Rameswaram temple: Madras HC judges
Rameswaram: The Judges of the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court have advised the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department officials to improve the queue system at holy Theertham sites at the ancient Sri Ramanthaswamy temple at Rameswaram.
The Justices K K Sasidharan, G R Swaminathan and J Nisha Banu inspected the temple on Sunday. Justice Sasidharan who found the queue leading to the 'theerthams' overcrowded, expressed serious concern over the difficulties face by devotees in availing the 'theerthams'. He advised the officials to decongest the crowd by allowing them in batches.
Later, the Judges also inspected the Agni Theertham', which was contaminated due to discharging of sewage from nearby lodges, hotels and shops into sea where people take a holy dip.
The officials informed the judges that they were letting in the sewage water only after treating it at the sewage treatment plant. Some times it was left untreated due to technical problem, the officials admitted. Justice Swaminathan advised them to evolve a full-proof mechanism to stop such practice.
