Kolkata: The 75th Territorial Army Day was celebrated at Jadunang Memorial College at Noney in Manipur by the 107 TA Infantry Battalion, comprising soldiers of 11 Gorkha Rifles, better known as the Gorkha Terriers.
Territorial Army Day is celebrated on October 9 every year to mark the raising of the force by the first Governor General Shri C Rajagopalachari.
Around 50 school staff and 300 students from different schools and colleges of Noney district participated in the event. The students were briefed on how to join the TA and also on the day to day life of a soldier.
Colonel Anirban Saha, Commanding Officer of the 107 TA Infantry Battalion welcomed the gathering and encouraged the students to actively participate in the event.
A memento was presented to the schools who participated in the cultural programme that was held at the venue. DC Noney Joseph Pauline Kamson spoke about the TA's rich history and famous personalities who have also joined the TA over the years.
He also conveyed his best wishes to the Gorkha Terriers. The event was appreciated by DC Noney, CSOs and students and staff from various institutions.
