Khammam: Sandeep Kumar Jha, the new commissioner of the Khammam Municipal Corporation, has begun the task of cleaning up the corporation in earnest and is targeting the irregularities that have cropped up during the last three years.
All departments in the KMC witnessed irregularities due to nonchalant attitude of the earlier municipal commissioners.
Recently irregularities in diesel consumption, wherein diesel coupons intended for sweeping machines and garbage lifting vehicles were misused, came to the fore. About 1,000 litres of diesel was shown to have been consumed in one month by the sweeping machine, when it was not even used in that particular month.
Likewise, a major scam was exposed in the diesel consumption of garbage tractors. A tractor is allotted 30 litres of diesel for plying 24 hours in a day but there are no checks on how many kilometres the tractor covered.
Another scam regarding use of JCB machines came to light and is being probed. A bill of '10 lakh was submitted for renting JCBs and earthmoving machines. Fake bills were raised in the name of vehicle repairs. The role of a senior assistant was found in the irregularity, and he may face action.
