Congress's Pushpalatha is Mysuru Mayor
Mysure: Coalition partners joined hands to ensure the victory of Congress candidate Pushpalatha Jagannath as 21st Mayor of this city palaces on Saturday.
Four independent candidates and one BSP candidate too supported the JD (S)- Congress coalition in Mysuru City Corporation.
Mrs Pushpalatha Jagannath secured 48 votes, defeating Sunanda Palanethra of BJP by a margin of 24 votes. Mr Shafi secured similar number of votes to defeat Sathish of BJP. Mrs Pushpalatha Jagannath said, “It is because of former CM Siddaramaiah I have become Mayor for the first term today. So I thank him first.” She also thanked former MLAs Vasu, Somshekar, MLA Tanveer Sait, JD (S) leaders and ministers G T Deve gowda and Sa Ra Mahesh. While Mysuru holds the cleanest city tag, she promised to focus on cleanliness of the city to hold on clean city tag in future. BJP leader and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, who did not vote as he came late, said: “Weak parties have joined together to keep the BJP away. This will not work in LS polls. With the image of PM Modi, we will win 22 seats in the state.” BJP corporator M.V. Ramprasad did not vote though he was present.
