Mysuru: Pesticide poisoned prasada, say police

Seven suspects have been detained in this connection.

Mysuru: Monocrotophos, an Organo phosphorus compound and insecticide was responsible for the Maramma temple prasada tragedy in Hanur, Chamarajnagar which has killed 14 people so far while almost a hundred are still being treated at various hospitals.

The toxicology report of samples of the vomit and stools of the devotees who consumed the prasada, have indicated the presence of this compound and insecticide, said Southern Range IGP Mr Sharath Chandra. Seven suspects have been detained in this connection. Explaining the impact Monocrotophos can have on the body, Dr Sajeeva Rao Girimaji, consultant physician at Apollo hospital, where 12 patients are being treated, said, “among organo phosphorous compounds, Monocrotophos poisoning is the most severe.
