THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST) has put on hold selection process for all Group A, Scientific and Technical posts scheduled for January 21 and 22.
The National ST Commission had directed the Department of Science and Technology to suspend selection process in the institute following complaints of non compliance of reservation norms in the institute. The selection process for the post of Registrar which is not scientific and technical post but notified along with above post , will be conducted as scheduled . The post of Registrar falls vacant on May 31,2019 . The selection process hasbeen put on hold until further orders from DST.
The Commission direction came in the wake of a complaint from Mr Biju A.S. of Wayanad alleging that SCTIMST was not complying with the reservation norms.
In a letter to the DST on January 11, the Commis-sion said that it had sent a notice to the president and director of the institute on November 30, 2018. Since there was no reply, a reminder was also sent through mail on January 8, 2019. But till date there is no response.
The applicant had informed that without making any changes in the previous reservation policy, the institute had scheduled power point presentation for new recruitment from January 8 to January 15 and recruitment from January 21 to 22.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of SCTIMST said that the institute had notified 14 posts for recruitment on 28.11.2018 for various Group A posts which included technical and scientific posts. The notification had been issued in compliance with the reservation policy of the Government of India which includes exemption for reservation available for Scientific and Technical Posts in Group A category other than the entry cadre.
The reservation policy that the Institute is following was also disclosed in the notification.
Referring to Mr Biju’s complaint, the institute said that he is an MTech Computer Science and Systems Engineering candidate. There was no such post notified in the notification issued on 28.11.2018.
SCTIMST examined the complaint and an interim reply was sent to the National Commission on 7.1.2019 seeking one week’s extension for furnishing a reply. A final reply was furnished to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes on 15.1.2019 with a copy to DST.
