PAMPA: The Supreme Court order on Friday ensuring round-the-clock security to Bindu Ammini and Kanakadurga, who trekked the Sabarimala defying protests, offers women who desire to get the darshan at the temple a big leverage.
The order has been passed by the top court as two young women Reshma Nishanth and Shanila Sajesh were forced to trek down from Neelimala by police and protesters the other day.
At least half a dozen women aged between 10 and 50 were denied entry to the temple by protesters despite the court verdict allowing all age women Sabarimala.
Speaking to DC soon after the order ensuring security to them came in, Ms Bindu, who is a lawyer herself, said the order was a morale booster to the young women who desire to go to Sabarimala. “Self-respecting young women must take it up as a challenge now,” she said.
It was on Thursday the duo approached the Supreme Court seeking police protection as their life was in danger due to the repeated threats and intimidation by right wing outfits. The women have been changing residence fearing assault since they entered the temple on January 2.
“I do believe the number of women who entered the Sabarimala the government gave in its affidavit to SC is correct because I know many women who entered the temple. They don’t want to make it public because they need to live in peace. With this order the situation is changed. It will build up a great deal of confidence among young women to go for darshan. I think it’s a chance to make sure the rights of women and keep the discrimination at bay,” she said.
