Tamil Nadu fisher's body arrives in Tiruchy from Colombo

Four fishermen from Ilanthakottam engaged in fishing when the mishap occured.

Tiruchi: The body of a Tamil Nadu fisherman Muniasamy, who was allegedly killed in a mid-sea mishap when a Sri Lankan naval ship dashed against the Indian fishermen's boat, arrived at the Tiruchy airport from Colombo by a Sri Lankan airlines flight on Friday.

It might be recalled that four Indian fishermen of Ilanthakottam near Devipatnam in Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu were engaged in fishing near Rameswaram shore on January 12, when the mishap occurred.

The body of a Tamil Nadu fisherman Muniasamy, who was allegedly killed in a mid-sea mishap when a Sri Lankan naval ship dashed against the Indian fishermen’s boat, arrived at the Tiruchy airport from Colombo by a Sri Lankan airlines flight on Friday.

It might be recalled that four Indian fishermen of Ilanthakottam near Devipatnam in Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu engaged in fishing near Rameswaram shore on January 12, when the mishap occurred.

The Indian fishermen's boat was damaged in the process and Muniasamy was killed on the spot. Three other Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy personnel on charge of crossing the international maritime boundary.

On arrival of Muniasamy's body at the airport, Union minister of state for shipping and transport, Mr. Pon Radhakrishnan and Tiruchy collector K. Rajamani, placed wreaths on the fisher’s body as a mark of respect for the departed soul. The fisherman's wife broke down on just seeing the coffin. Later the body was sent to the deceased person's native place in Ramanathapuram district, sources said.
