Row ruins library at St George's Church

The roof has come down, and books, magazines and newspapers are scattered on the floor.

Hyderabad: The reading room of St. George’s Church, a prize-winning heritage structure, at Abids lies in a dilapidated condition. The roof has come down, and books, magazines and newspapers are scattered on the floor. Sources said this was the result of a dispute between the church administration with the Church of South India.

A regular churchgoer said, “The structure near the the boundary of the church and it’s not being used for 5-6 years as some officials are planning to sell the land. We have objected, and they are lying low. They are not working to improve the library’s condition.” The graveyard beside the reading room is abandoned. “The graveyard houses around 30 graves from the British era. The area is covered by thorny bushes and trees,” he said.

When contacted, the church pastor denied the allegations. “It’s an internal matter and the condition of the buildings on the premises should be left to church officials,” he told this newspaper.
