Hometown blues: Mysureans sore with Siddaramaiah

He has disappointed the people of his hometown of Mysuru, who feel they have not received their due.

Mysuru: Chief Minister may have made Bengalureans happy, but he has disappointed the people of his hometown of Mysuru, who feel they have not received their due.

While the Budget has promised to build a long awaited district hospital to ease the burden on the KR Hospital attached to the Mysuru Medical College, set up a permanent exhibition centre of world standards, and upgrade the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway, Mysureans feel shortchanged .

“None of the projects announced will make a fundamental difference to Mysuru. Although it is a heritage city and a major tourism destination, there is no mention of protecting its heritage structures or improving its attraction as a tourism destination,” complained Mr Chandraprakash, president of the Mysuru Grahakara Parishat, an association of concerned citizens of the city. Also, while Mr Prashanth B S of t he Mysuru Tourism Forum, welcomes the initiative to upgrade the Mysuru- Bengaluru highway and holding a tourism mart once in two years, he is upset by the hike in road tax and the taxes imposed on diesel. "We had huge expectations, but the Budget has not met them,” he said. Industry too is not entirely happy. While welcoming the allocation of Rs.1814 crores for the industries department, many industrialists are unhappy there is no mention of a Government Engineering College for the city and with the absence of any provision for speedy clearance of files.
