TMC fields NR Nadarajan for Thanjavur seat
Thanjavur: A B.E. graduate, N.R. Nadarajan, (52) of Thambikottai near Pattukottai, announced as the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) candidate for Thanjavur Lok Sabha seat by G.K. Vasan, TMC president on Monday, is from an illustrious family-Ramasamy Thevar of Thambi-kottai.
Eighth son of Ramasamy Thevar, who was closely associated with leaders like Kamaraj, R.Venkatraman, G.K.Moppanar and Poondi Vandayar, Nadarajan is the trustee of Vairamani-Ramasamy polytechnic at Thambikottai and brother of N.R.Rangarajan, three times MLA of Pattukottai.
Ramasamy Thevar was MLA and MP during the years from 1945 to 1955 and he was district board chairman.
He joined TMC in 1996 and now he is the state executive committee member of the party. He is running a company 'NRN promoters' at Thanjavur. He is related to late V.N. Swaminathan who was MP from 1980-85 representing Pudukottai parliament constituency.(V.N.Swaminathan's father V. Nadimuthu Pillai was MLA and MP during the years 1945-55 and chairman of district board and member
of constituent assembly).
Belonging to Ahamudayar community, Nadarajan pins his hopes on services rendered by his family and his brother N.R. Rangarajan as TMC MLA of Pattukottai from 2001 to 2016 for three periods.
He is also the executive committee member of Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha, which conducts annual 'Aradhana' for saint-composer Sri Thyagaraja at Thiruvaiyaru every year and honorary president of Pattukottai Chamber of commerce and Industry.
The TMC got Thanjavur Lok Sabha seat in the AIADMK-BJP alliance this time. Previously TMC had contested this seat in 1999 and lost the election. P.L.A. Chidambaram, TMC candidate had then polled 69,000 votes.
