Osmania University readies for three-day fiesta
Hyderabad: Nearly eight thousand students staying at Osmania University’s hostels will be served special delicacies during the three days of centenary celebrations from April 26 to 28. Officials said there will be a different menu every day. But serving food for thousands of students will prove tricky for the University.
A large number of students are expected to turn up at the same time and that means crowd control will prove to be a major challenge for authorities. There is also the possibility of outsiders gate-crashing the event which means food meant for the students could be misused.
To overcome this problem, varsity officials have decided to host the special lunch sessions at each of the 17 hostels.
The menu on each day will be common across the hostels but the dishes will be prepared in the kitchens of each hostel. For example, lunch arrangements for the Arts College students will be made at the college itself and the same method will follow for the other colleges too.
Meanwhile, day scholars across departments will be issued meal tokens a few days prior to the main event and they will be instructed to have lunch at the hostels of the respective department.
Vice-chancellor S. Ramachandram said OU will not be charging students for meals during the three days.
“Serving food at the hostels will make sure no one misses out. Also, there will be no extra cost deducted from students for the arrangements. Authorities will ensure that students are served quality food, for free, during the three days of celebration,” he said.
