Hyderabad: NEET books give huge profit

Guides of Arihant, Tata Mcgraw Hill, Cengage, Vikram publishers are mostly in demand.

Hyderabad: Medical aspirants are thronging bookshops in Sultan Bazaar and Koti for the last few days. With SC mandating the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical admissions in all states, students are buying related books to clear the new hurdle before them.

Several inquiries are being made for NCERT text books for botany, zoology physics and chemistry as well as guides and model papers of different publications. Mr Bharat Sharma, owner of Rajkamal Book Centre in Koti, stated the outlet was getting at least 50 Neet customers every day.

While the NCERT text books cost between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,200, guides and private publications cost around Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 for all books. Guides of Arihant, Tata Mcgraw Hill, Cengage, Vikram publishers are mostly in demand. However, students are playing smart to ensure that their pockets are not emptied in buying Neet material.

“Almost all of them are spending Rs 1,000 or above for the new books. Since physics and chemistry parts are one and the same, they are just buying botany and zoology books (NCERT and private publishers). This will cost Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 depending upon the publications,” Mr Bharat said.

He said that students are also coming with proper groundwork on which books to buy. “We are keeping books of three to four publications. From those, students are picking up their desired choices. As of now, there is no shortage of stocks. If not in one store, you can get books of your choice in any other store here in Koti and Sultan Bazaar,” he said.

Coaching institutes, which have devised two-month training programmes to help students excel in the national test, are making their own arrangements as far as book material is concerned.

“NCERT Exemplar lessons are being downloaded from the official website. It will be divided into one unit each to be handed over to students at the time of training classes,” a faculty at a coaching centre said.
