Amaravati: The locals of Yerrabalem in the Amaravati capital region got relief due to issuing of stay orders by the High Court against removal of houses for road expansion.
The Yerrabalem panchayat decided to expand the main road for the temporary Secretariat establishment at Velagapudi and further decided to demolish houses on the two sides of the road.
The government started removal of the houses in Tadepalli, Penumaka and Undavalli of the Amaravati capital region, besides Yerrabalem, but the locals protested against the demolition of the houses.
The locals who were living there for the past 40 years had appealed to the officials to spare their houses, but in vain. The Yerrabalem panchayat officials started removal of the houses amidst protest from the locals. The angry locals took the issue to the notice of Mangalagiri MLA of YSR Congress, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who lodged a case in the AP High Court.
Mr Ramakrishna Reddy said that the High Court issued stay order against the removal of houses for the road expansion. He felt that there is no need of removing the houses as there is another road in the village which can be developed.
He said that besides Yerrabalem, the locals of Undavalli, Tadepalli and Penumaka also got stay orders against removal of their houses for road expansion.
He alleged that the Telugu Desam government was nbent on throwing away poor people from the Amaravati capital region. So, it started removal of the houses in the name of development.
Mr Ramakrishna Reddy said that the YSRC will not allow the removal of the houses without proper compensation or package and will fight for the protection of the houses.
