Pvt colleges in Andhra Pradesh withholding certificates

Student, who fought against compulsory SR ship, are now in despair over the colleges' action.

Vijayawada: Despite clear orders from the High Court putting stay on GO. No 99 given on senior residentship (SR ship) of PG medical students, some private medical college managements are still harassing the students by refusing to hand over their marks memos and certificates. Student, who fought against compulsory SR ship, are now in despair over the colleges’ action.

The Andhra Pradesh government had issued GO. No. 99 on compulsory SR ship, directing students of private colleges to work in their parental institutions for one year as senior residents considering, the norms given by Medical Council of India in allotting new seats in colleges. But, students opposed the GO and approached the High Court and got a stay on the order.

“Colleges, which threatened us to sign consent forms on SR ship before examination, were now using those forms and demanding us to work for them for lower salary. The state government is purportedly supporting private colleges and heading to appeal in court with the forms signed by us,” said Andhra Pradesh Medicos and Junior Doctors’ Association general secretary B. Naga Chaitanya.

PES Medical College, which was situated in the Chief Minister's own constituency, is troubling management quota students by stalling their certificates, he alleged.

“No college can withhold certificates after completion of course and it is against rules. SR ship has no relationship with certificates and withholding them for the sake of service matter is not acceptable. We will take stringent action on college managements if students come forward to complain us on this concern,” said Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Registrar Dr S. Appala Naidu.
