Telangana: 63 drug cases pending trial
Hyderabad: Drug related cases are piling up with the city police; most of them are being investigated and the charge-sheets are yet to be filed. The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Central Crime Station has 63 cases that are either under investigation or pending trial since 2012.
A. Ravi, the Inspector of the Anti Narcotics Cell, said that they had filed charge-sheets for 30 of the 63 pending cases, and they were trying to deal with them one by one.
Drug related cases that are picked by the Task Force or the local police are transferred to the ANC for investigation and documentation.
Avinash Mohanty, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, said, “Cases are pending since 2012. We are going through all the pending files and filing charge sheets. The SIT office of the CCS has huge deposits of seized cocaine, ganja and other drugs which are yet to be destroyed. We have to identify which drugs belong to which case and deposit them in Court. Labelling and cataloguing have to be done.”
He added that they had booked several notorious drug peddlers, including foreigners, under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Subs-tances Act.
The ANC is also awaiting reports on several cases from the Telangana State Forensic Science Laboratory.
