Amaravati: As expected, the rush of pilgrim increased at the Saiva Kshetrams as they thronged the ghats to take the Krishna Pushkaralu holy dip on Sravana Pournami that fell on Thursday.
Pilgrims in large numbers were seen at Tallayapalem Pushkar ghat taking holy dips and then proceeding to visit the Kotilingala Saiva Kshetram.
Similarly, the number of pilgrims at old Amaravati ghat was noticeably higher. After taking the dip, they were seen visiting the Amareswara temple.
Deputy Chief Minister N. China Rajappa took the Pushkar bath with his family members at old Amaravati and performed special pujas in the Amareswara temple, which is generally avoided by superstitious politicians.
Speaking to media persons later, Mr Rajappa said that the government has made all possible arrangements, including supplying free food to the devotees.
He said that Krishna Pushkaralu is a festival which people of all caste and religions can celebrate.
Mr Rajappa said that he performed special pujas in the Amareswara temple praying for a prosperous AP.
The minister, along with Pedakurapadu MLA K. Sridhar inspected the Pushkar ghats and interacted with the devotees.
Similarly, nearly 20,000 devotees were seen at Tallayapalem in the early hours, taking holy dips. After the holy dip, they visited Saiva Kshetram where one crore Siva Lingas are installed. The devotees worshipped Siva presented in various forms on the occasion of Pournami.
Every inch of the two ghats at Seetanagaram was filled with devotees. Some devotees were seen using the shower system to avoid the huge rush.
