Chikkadpally: Danger in the dark with no streetlights
Hyderabad: The road between Chikkadpally and Secunderabad via RTC Crossroads, Musheerabad and Gandhi Hospital is one of the most neglected.
The numerous potholes here are often more than a metre wide. This, combined with variable thickness of road caused by and loose gravel, makes riding risky.
At night there are often no streetlights. Often motorists, especially two wheeler riders, fail to see the ditches, leading to accidents, or at least an extremely bumpy ride. Since the Metro Rail work started, the stretch has become worse as the road width has decreased at some points to just one lane on each side.
Mr K. Murali, a resident of Narayanguda, had a bad experience near RTC crossroads. He recalled, “One night while returning from work I could not see a deep ditch due to lack of streetlights. The front wheel of my two-wheeler got stuck in it and I was flung a few metres and was injured. A car behind me managed to stop just in time, else it could have been a serious accident.”
