Odisha, Assam Bhawans come up in Chennai
Chennai: Odisha Bhawan, the official guesthouse of Odisha government in Chennai, is likely to be inaugurated next week.
The foundation stone for the bhawan was laid in May 2012 by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the presence of then TN chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Students landing in Tamil Nadu from Odisha to pursue higher education and patients coming to the city for healthcare have been increasing over the years. The guesthouse with dormitories and over 20 rooms on Velachery-Tambaram Main Road in Pallikaranai will help them and tourists, said sources.
At the stone-laying function in 2012, Naveen had thanked Jayalalithaa for giving the Odisha government land for construction of the bhawan.
He also recalled his father late Biju Patnaik’s visit to Chennai and his words of praise for Jayalalithaa. The CM had also pointed out that Odisha and Tamil Nadu share a rich and glorious tradition.
Besides, Kalinga and Chola navigators who took trade and culture to far off lands, the two states have dance forms which leave a distinct mark in the minds of people throughout the world, he said.
Assam Bhawan, built adjacent to Odisha Bhawan, is also ready for inauguration.
