HYDERABAD: The government has enhanced the upper age limit for candidates applying for state jobs to 44 years, but it has not benefited the seniors much. Even two per cent of candidates above 40 years of age could not get a posting in two years. Thus far, the Telangana State Public Service Commission has conducted recruitment tests for over 5,000 vacancies in different departments. According to TSPSC officials, most of the successful candidates were below 29 years of age.
In technical exams for recruitment of assistant executive engineers assistant engineers, the successful candidates were even younger. It was observed that students aged 21 and 22 years, who had just passed out of college, cleared the exams and secured jobs in irrigation, Panchayat Raj, municipal administration, roads and buildings, rural water supply departments.
The burden of family responsibilities, being employed in other jobs and the long break in studies after passing out of college were some of the reason that officials gave for senior candidates failing to clear the exams. However, there seemed to be no lack of enthusiasm when it came to applying for the recruitment exams. Up to 30 per cent of candidates for various tests were aged between 30 and 44 years.
In the upcoming Group-2 written test slated for November 11 and 13, nearly 2 lakh out of the 8 lakh applicants are above 30 years of age. Of these, nearly 20,000 candidates older than 40 years.
