2 Arrested from Buldhana in Connection with Death Threats Given to Shinde

“A crime branch team visited Buldhana and nabbed two persons, suspected to be involved in the crime, with the help of the local police. Both are being brought to Mumbai.”

Mumbai: The Mumbai police have arrested two men for allegedly threatening to blow up Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde’s car on Thursday. The duo were arrested from Buldhana district in Maharashtra. They have been identified as Mangesh Wayal (35) and Abhay Shingne (22), both from Buldhana. The police said a probe is underway to ascertain their motive.

The case was registered at Goregaon police station in Mumbai after an email was received on Thursday, threatening to bomb the official vehicle of Mr. Shinde. Multiple police stations in Mumbai and Mantralaya received threat emails on the day Mr. Shinde was in Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Bharatiya Janata Party government in the national capital and to attend a meeting of chief ministers of the National Democratic Alliance.

Within 24 hours after registering the FIR, the police traced both the accused and arrested them under sections 351(3), 351(4), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They were being brought to Mumbai for further investigations.

“A crime branch team visited Buldhana and nabbed two persons, suspected to be involved in the crime, with the help of the local police. Both are being brought to Mumbai,” a senior police official said.

The official further informed that the investigators will probe whether the accused acted independently or were part of a larger conspiracy. Digital forensic teams are analysing email logs and communication records for further leads, he said.

The incident has sparked a political row, with opposition parties questioning Maharashtra’s law and order situation. Spokesperson of the Shiv Sena, Kiran Hengde also said that such threats should not be taken lightly. “Strict action is necessary to prevent misuse of digital platforms for intimidation,” he said.

According to reports, Wayal has claimed that Shingane had sent the email from his phone while it was being charged in order to take revenge. Wayal, whose girlfriend committed suicide a few months ago, used to accuse Shingane of driving her to take the extreme stop. The police official said the investigators are trying to verify Wayal’s claim.
