2 Women Killed in Mumbai High-Rise Fire

The deceased have been identified as Sabila Khatun Shaikh (42) and Sajiya Alam Sheikh (30). They were taken to the BMC-run JJ hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

Mumbai: Two women were killed and five others injured after a fire broke out in a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Masjid Bandar area during the early hours of Sunday. The fire was reported at 6.11 am at the 11-storey Panna Ali Mansion along Issaji Street in Masjid Bandar.

The deceased have been identified as Sabila Khatun Shaikh (42) and Sajiya Alam Sheikh (30). They were taken to the BMC-run JJ hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

A man Karim Shaikh (20) and a woman Shahin Shaikh (22) were also suffocated due to smoke and they have been taken to JJ Hospital. The other injured people are Adil Raja Shaikh (24) Nakis Surti (24) and Sauda Alam Shaikh (48). While Surti and Sauda Shaikh were discharged from hospital, the other victims’ condition is stable.

As per preliminary information from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the blaze was confined to the wiring and other electrical installations in the common meter box and the electrical wiring located in the common passage of the high-rise building’s ground floor. The blaze was doused by 6.31 am. The cause of the fire was not yet known and is under investigation, said fire officials.

In November last year, seven members of the same family, including three minors, were killed in a fire that broke out in a residential building at Chembur in Mumbai. The fire broke out at the ground floor of a two-storey building along KN Gaikwad Marg in Chembur.
