Kerala: Shuffle in police top brass raises eyebrows
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government's decision to shift B. Sandhya as ADGP (South-zone) and P. Vijayan as IG (Ernakulam range) has raised many an eyebrow in the political and police circles. While Ms Sandhya has been posted as ADGP (training), Mr Vijayan will now be IG (Administration) at police headquarters. He is being replaced by Vijay Sakhare. Transport commissioner Anil Kanth will be the new ADGP south-zone. He is being replaced by K. Padmakumar, who was shifted from ADGP (training) post to Marketfed managing director following adverse remarks in the solar commission report.
"The postings were surprising, especially those of Ms Sandhya and Mr Vijayan as they were posted to less significant posts," a senior police officer commented on condition of anonymity. Ms Sandhya was handpicked by the LDF government as ADGP (south-zone) as soon as it took over and she was entrusted with the Jisha murder case. She was also said to be having a cordial relation with many top CPM leaders.
The rumours doing the rounds regarding her transfer was that she had not bothered to take advice from some senior officers during the probe against Dileep in connection with the actor abduction and rape case. There were also allegations that she was taking forward the probe with personal ego as former state police chief T.P. Senkumar had flayed her involvement in the probe, especially the day long quizzing of actor Dileep. The trial in the case against Dileep is expected to begin soon.
Incidentally Mr. Vijayan was shifted soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised him for the 'Punyam Poonkavanam' project at Sabarimala. The whispers in the corridors was that the CPM local leaders in Ernakulam were unhappy with Mr Vijayan as many 'political goondas' were held as part of drives against anti-social elements.
