Kozhikode: 976 traffic violation cases during zero hours'
KOZHIKODE: The police registered 976 cases of traffic violations during 'zero hours' in the city on the first day and gradually dropped to 872 and 50 on the days after its implementation this week.
So far cops have registered 3198 cases in just three days after the implementation of an hour-long enforcement drive.
The punishment for violators is a two-hour compulsory traffic awareness class.
City police commissioner Sanjay Kumar Gurudin launched the drive on Thursday and observed between 4 pm and 5 pm on the first day.
The time kept changing without any publicity.
A.K. Babu, the traffic assistant commissioner, said that the number ofviolators caught during this one hour is enormous and the violators would flood awareness sessions.
Signal jumping, helmet and overspeeding were major violations.
"We have nearly 30 squads of both traffic and city police deployed for the initiative. Most of the violators were youngsters wearing no helmets. We expect a positive impact from the initiative," he said
