Kerala High Court raps state for political killings
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday observed that the ideology of annihilating political opponents does not have a place in civilised society. A single bench made the observation while rejecting the bail petition of the accused in the Shuhaib murder case.
The court said that the murder of Shuhaib was a heinous act and that there was a clear conspiracy behind it. The murder was executed with the precision of professional killers. The court also assessed that it was a sequel to a series of political murders.
The court rejected bail petitions of first accused Akash Thillankeri, second accused Renjith Raj, third accused K. Jithin and fourth accused C.S. Deepak Chand. The court said that if bail was granted to the accused, they would influence and threaten the witnesses. Moreover they may repeat such offences.
To retain the law and order situation in the area, it was necessary to reject their bail petition, the order said.
Youth Congress worker Shuhaib was murdered on February 12 last year. Akash and Renjith were arrested on February 19, Jithin on February 26 and Deepak on March 4. The accused are now in jail. The prosecution informed the court that the investigation into the case had been completed and the final report submitted.
