HYDERABAD: TS power utilities argued before the Telangana High Court that the Centre had discriminated against them while directing a payment of Rs. 6,757 crore to AP electricity distribution companies (discoms) as dues from June 2, 2014, to June 10, 2017.
C.S. Vaidyanathan, Supreme Court senior counsel, representing the TS northern and southern power distribution companies, said the Centre had not considered the dues pending from AP power companies to the state.
Senior counsel told a division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji that AP Genco had stopped the supply of electricity to Telangana after bifurcation though the AP Reorganisation Act mandated the two states should supply power to each other if there was a shortage.
He said Telangana had spent more than Rs. 4,740 crore to buy electricity in the outside market, but the Centre had not considered this. The Bench adjourned the arguments to March 14 and sought records from the Centre.
