Telangana: Jalpally water doesn't go uphill
Hyderabad: Residents of Jalpally municipality which includes Shaheennagar, Erragunta, Toor Colony, Minar Colony, Sadath-nagar, Maqboolnagar, Alain colony, Osman Nagar, Wadi-e-huda, Wadi-e-mustafa, Quba Colony etc. have been staging protests because they are not receiving municipal water for the past two years.
Pipelines to supply drinking water had been laid during the tenure of the previous Congress government. Locals are forced to buy borewell water, said resident Mohamed Karim Ansari, who has filed RTI queries seeking information on the progress of work.
”Last year we made several representations to officials and they promised that next year we will get water connections in every house. That has not happened. With the summer coming, people are worried that they will have to walk up to 4 km in the heat to get water," Mr Ansari said.
Water is not the only problem; the roads are also in bad condition. “The MLA who represents our colony has never visited even a single time after the elections. We are suffering a lot under this leadership as no one is bothered to solve our problems,” said Mr Shakir Baig.
He noted that Krishna water was supplied through the Research Centre Imarat till Pahadishareef, but the connections are not being extended to Shaheennagar, Errakunta, Shadabnagar, Alain Colony and Usmannagar.
When contacted, Jalpally municipal commissioner Saber Ali said, “A few colonies are located in hilly areas. Some residents in Shaheennagar, Erragunta, Toor Colony and Maqboolnagar have taken illegal connections and never paid bills. He said the work was being given to the Water Board very soon. They will take care of the issues,” he said.
