Hyderabad outskirts reeling from erratic power cuts

City-range power department authorities attribute the problem to load imbalance.

Hyderabad: As summer sets in, several localities in the twin cities, particularly those in the fringe areas, are reeling from unscheduled and erratic power cuts, some lasting up to an hour.

The power generating board has issued a schedule for power cuts during the morning and afternoon, ostensibly owing to ‘technical work’ being undertaken in certain localities.

On Thursday, Sainikpuri in Yapral’s Defence Colony was without power from 9.30 am to 11.30 am, which was unscheduled, said resident Ravi Anand.

Over the past one week, Lingampally has witnessed erratic power cuts lasting from 10 to 30 minutes.

Sri Ram Nagar Colony-Kondapur, Hafezpet and Journalist Colony, a few kms from Hitec City, have been facing cuts in the afternoon.

Power was cut at 12.20 pm and restored by 1.20 pm on Thursday, but was cut once again at 3 pm and resorted after 30 minutes, said Adhi Shankar of Sri Ram Nagar-Kondapur.

Power cuts are particularly plaguing fringe areas such as Vanasthalipuram, Lingampally, Miyapur, L.B. Nagar, Golconda, Vasanthapuri Colony, Malkajgiri, Manikonda, Attapur and others, with complaints about low voltage coming in as well.

City-range power department authorities attribute the problem to load imbalance.

“In case of maintenance, a schedule is released by the department mentioning the name of the locality and the time frame of power cuts. However, in case of unscheduled cuts, power load is likely to be the issue, and citizens must contact their regional Southern Power Distribution Company office for help,” an official said.
