Coimbatore: With The Tamil Nadu board Plus-2 results declared on Friday, Coimbatore secured a 95.01 pass percentage, better than last year. The state recorded an overall 91.3 pass percentage compared to the 91.10 per cent which was secured last year.
The textile city is divided into four educational districts namely Coimbatore, Perur, S S Kulam and Pollachi. As many as 35,000 candidates appeared for the HSC examinations this year from Coimbatore. Of the 15,352 boys and 19.648 girls who appeared for the exams, 14,383 boys and 18,870 girls cleared the examination.
A total of 33,253 candidates passed all the subjects taking the overall pass percentage to 95.01 in the textile city. As has been the trend for years, girls outperformed the boys with a pass per cent of 96.04 while 93.69 was the pass per cent among the boys in the textile city. Pass percentage in Coimbatore, Perur, S S Kulam and Pollachi is 98.16, 97.66, 98.00 and 96.06 respectively.
Of the 7,061 boys and girls who appeared for the HSC examinations from the 81 government schools in the district a total of 7,052 candidates cleared the examinations. In the differently-abled category, while the deaf and dumb and blind student category achieved 100 per cent passes, the physically challenged and other category recorded a 88.10 and 90 per cent passes respectively.
CORPORATION SCHOOLS:
Among Corporation schools in the city, a total of 1,831 candidates including 565 boys and 1,266 girls appeared for the examinations; of them, 1,692 candidates- 472 boys and 1,220 girls-, passed the examination taking the pass per cent of girls and boys to 96.37 and 83.54 respectively. Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School in Ramakrishnapuram is the best performing school with a pass per cent of 98.78.
Of the 82 girls, 81 cleared all the subjects this year in the HSC examinations. It may be noted that last year, the school secured cent per cent results in the examinations. Meanwhile, students N Vasanthakumar and K Christan, who were rescued by volunteers of Coimbatore division of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) also attempted the Plus-2 examinations form Sengataiya Boys Higher Secondary School Coimbatore and R. K. Rangammal Higher Secondary School Coimbatore respectively. The two candidates scored above 300 marks in the examination.
Before being rescued by NCLP volunteers, Vasanthakumar was selling milk, while Christan worked in cotton thread removing unit.
