Kalburgi killing: Scotland Yard to verify cartridges, reports
BENGALURU: The empty cartridges and shells of bullets, which were used in the murders of the two rationalists – Dr M.M. Kalburgi in Karnataka and Dr Narendra Dabholkar and Left leader - Govind Pansare in Maharashtra along with the ballistic reports have reportedly sent to the Scotland Yard for forensic analysis to confirm whether the same firearm was used in the three assassinations.
It is reliably learnt that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating Dr Dabholkar’s murder case, has reportedly sent the spent cartridges and bullets used in all the three cases along with ballistic reports to Scotland Yard to ascertain if the firearms used in the three assassinations were the same.
There was confusion after the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Madiwala in its ballistic report had reportedly stated that one cartridge out of the five, which killed Dr Kalburgi matched with the cartridge used in the murder of Dabholkar and another one matched with the cartridge, which was used in the assassination of Pansare. The FSL, Kalina in Mumbai, meanwhile, had observed that same weapon was used in all the three sensational killings.
The CBI had, earlier informed the Bombay High Court, which is monitoring Dabholkar and Pansare investigations, that it would like to take a third opinion on the weapon used in the three murders after the Bengaluru and Mumbai forensic labs differed on the issue.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Karnataka is investigating Kalburgi murder case. The CBI, CID and the Special Investigation Team in Maharashtra, which is probing Pansare murder, are sharing information on need to know basis since there are striking similarities in the three target killings.
