Yeswanthpur foot over bridge: BMRCL goes slow
Bengaluru: The Yeswanthpur railway station is being revamped, with a foot overbridge and an escalator in the pipeline. However, an overbridge connecting the railway station and the metro is yet to be constructed as the BMRC still hasn’t come up with a plan despite the railways department having already given them a go-ahead. The issue has been brought to the notice of Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and MP Ananthkumar, but in vain.
Sanjeev V Dyamannavar, traffic expert and member, Praja RAAG, said: “More people are using the Metro, so it makes sense to have a foot over bridge connecting it with the railway station. The railway station does not, at the moment, have even a signboard directing commuters to Namma Metro. Introducing a train for the Metro, will also help passengers traveling out of the city; there are many important early-morning trains heading for Shivamogga and Hubballi. The BBMP FOB near the metro station can be integrated with one that will connect the two stations as well. ”
Initially, the project suffered a setback over a disagreement between the railways and the metro about funding, revenue sharing and the land. A BMRC
official said, “Talks are on, but there are many issues that need sorting out before construction begins. The final plan will be ready in a few days.”
