1.93 lakh houses in urban areas across Andhra Pradesh

Colonies would be named PMAY-NTR Nagar; 5 reputed companies taking up the project.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the government will initiate stringent action against officials and agencies which neglect the urban housing projects meant for the poor.

He laid foundation stone for 1,52,000 affordable houses in 38 cities across the state through remote control and said that both the state and union governments were working with a motive of House For All by 2022.

He said that the government had decided to construct 1,93,000 houses in urban areas across the state, of which, 41,000 would be independent houses.

Mr Naidu said that the colonies would be name ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) - NTR NAGAR’ and five reputed companies, including L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, were taking up this projects.

He said that housing schemes would be taken up with internationally approved ‘share wall technology’ and measures would be taken to provide basic amenities like PHCs, primary schools, shopping complexes and community halls. Mr Naidu alleged that the earlier governments misused around Rs 4,000 crore in the name of housing projects and used cheap construction material. Many houses are in a dilapidated state and the TD government had taken measures to reconstruct them, he said.

Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu addressed the meeting through video link from Delhi and appreciated the efforts of the state in urban housing. He said the Centre is committed to its promise of housing for all and has e decreased interest rates on housing loans.
