MGR medical varsity receives 44,000 forms for MBBS, BDS
Chennai: Around 43,935 application forms were submitted for MBBS and BDS admissions in government and self-financing colleges affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr M G R Medical University on the till the last day of application submission at Director of Medical Education office on Tuesday.
Students and parents stood in long queues to the selection committee offices on Director of Medical Education premises to submit the forms for admission to MBBS/BDS on Tuesday.
The selection committee sold 38,271 applications, while 4,566 free applications were distributed to SC/ST community candidates till the end of sales on June 18, 2018.
The state selection committee said 24,933 students bought applications for medical courses government medical colleges and 13,338 students opted for self-financing colleges.
A total of 2,900 seats in government medical colleges and 783 seats in private colleges are available this year, while 15 per cent seats have been reserved for all-India quota. Around 1.2 lakh candidates appeared for Neet this year conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on May 6, of which 45,336 Tamil Nadu students cleared the exam. The counselling is expected to commence from July 1. The candidates will be granted admissions based on marks obtained in Neet 2018.
Last year, the number of applications submitted was 51,873. However, applicants have declined by around 8,000. The senior officials expected around 45,000 application submissions, after taking in account the downloaded forms from the website, however, the total applications were 43,935.
