Boy Tries to Fend Off Strays, Run Over By Tractor in Hanamkonda

Warangal: A Class VI student, who was taking part in a rally as part of the Education Day celebrations under the TS Formation Day events, died after going under the wheels of a tractor while he was trying to fend off aggressive stray dogs in Marripalligudem village of Kamalapur mandal of Hanamkonda on Tuesday.

The student was identified as Inugula Danush, 11, the only son of Jayapal and Swapna.

Eyewitnesses said that the event took place when Danush, before the rally, went to a bakery in the vicinity to purchase biscuits and while he was returning, was attacked by stray dogs. Subsequently, he ran and was run over by the tractor.

The incident sparked unrest among locals, who lashed out at the education department for endangering students under the guise of a celebration rally, instead of educating them in the school.

Following the incident, Huzurabad MLA Etala Rajendar expressed shock over the incident and spoke to the parents of the child over phone to console them. He demanded the state government sanction ex gratia to the family.

BJP state chief and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, took to Twitter to express shock at the boy’s death and conveyed his condolences to the family members.

He alleged that the government was responsible for the death of the minor student.

“In the name of decennial celebrations, the government is forcing and exerting pressure on the officials of various departments to organise programmes. It is unfair to bring children out of school and make them participate in rallies and other events, because of which the sixth-class student Danush died,” Bandi Sanjay said.

He demanded ex gratia from the state government for the family and additional support as well.
