KIIFB to fund Vyttila flyover

KIIFB board is yet to approve the proposal for Kundanoor flyover, says works minister G. Sudhakaran.

Kochi: The executive committee of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has cleared funding for the much awaited Vyttila flyover project.

A meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram approved the detailed project report with an estimate of '95.75 crore, works minister G. Sudhakaran told DC.

“Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB), the special purpose vehicle of the project, will initiate the tendering process soon,” he said. The state government had given administrative sanction for the project in last month.

“Regarding the Kundanoor flyover, the KIIFB board chaired by the chief minister is yet to approve the proposal. Once it gets the clearance, the implementing agency will initiate the tendering process,” added the minister.

Through an interim order issued in March this year, the Kerala High Court had asked the government to inform the time by which a flyover can be constructed at Vyttila, and the government submitted that the flyover will be built in 18 months. Though National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was willing to take up the projects, the state government has decided to construct the two flyovers to avoid toll collection.

There have been widespread complaints about the uncertainties and inordinate delay in executing the flyover projects in the two busiest junctions in the state.

The project has been put on the backburner following the dispute between NHAI and state PWD.

Apart from the two key flyovers, Vaduthala RoB and few other infra projects in the city have also been included in KIIFB.
