Nellore: BJP smile strained, says will miss M Venkaiah Naidu

Leaders say he will keep eye on Nellore even as V-P.

Nellore: Though BJP leaders owing allegiance to BJP vice-presidential candidate M. Venkaiah Naidu have been boasting of his elevation, they feel that he should have been in active politics for some more time. District unit president P. Surendra Reddy felt Mr Naidu would not keep quiet with respect to development of of the regin and the state, despite restrictions imposed by his new post.

He said everyone feared there would be slowdown in the development programmes Mr Naidu had initiated in Nellore region because of his new position, but Mr Naidu was not the one to ignore the programmes he launched. “Though we are pained by his sudden exit from active politics, it is a high post and an honour to South India,” he added. “There may be restrictions for direct involvements but nothing can stop him from giving directions on development issues. Development of the state and Nellore district was on the top of his agenda whether he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka or Rajas-than” Mr Surendra Reddy said.

Subscribing to some of his views, BJP state spokesman Karnati Anjaneya Reddy said, Mr Naidu was an asset and was at hand to sort out issues pertaining to the party’s relationship with the Telugu Desam. “His absence may create a void,” he said. Stating that his absen-ce was a de-motivating factor to some extent, and that people were in favour of his continuance in politics, he hastened to add that Mr Naidu’s selection for the vice president post was a proud moment for all Nellorians.

“He capable of bringing a special flavour and importance for whatever the post he is holding. We are confident that he will excel in the second highest position in the country,” BJP senior leader and former TTD board member Bhanu Prakash Reddy said. He said he was in favour of Mr Naidu remaining in active politics for some more time. Minister S. Chandramohan Reddy said Mr Naidu will shine in any post and predicted that he will become President of the country.
